Mapleton officials say that despite widespread flooding in the region today, township water is still safe to consume.
However, rural landowners with private wells may want to disinfect their water once flood waters have receded.
"Our municipal water supply has not been affected by today’s flooding and is safe to drink," officials stated in a press release issued on June 23 at about 4:45pm.
Private well owners with flood water that has "risen over the top or around the well casing … may need to disinfect your drinking water after the flood waters have receded," the release states.
Anyone with questions about private well contamination, can call Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health at 1-800-265-7293 ext. 4753 or visit wdgpublichealth.ca.
Water sampling bottles can also be picked up from the Mapleton office at 7275 Sideroad just outside Drayton.
