Township happy with new truck purchase

“Yes, it is red,” Larry Lynch said with a smile on July 19.

Mapleton’s Public Works Director relayed several good News items surrounding the township’s purchase of a new tandem dump truck and snow plow.

In addition to the colour, which matches the rest of the department’s vehicles, at $193,572 the International truck also came in well under the budgeted $225,000.

Plus, the truck is already on the lot at Viking-Cives in Mount Forest, where harnessing and sanding and plowing equipment will be added to the vehicle (included in the overall price). Lynch expects the truck will be delivered to the township, ready for winter operations, by early September.

The other three suppliers, which provided quotes ranging from $200,961 to $217,959, would have required 14 to 16 weeks to deliver to Viking-Cives for “dressing” of the vehicle.

The new truck, from Altruck International Truck Centre in Guelph, will replace the current vehicle, which is 20 years old.

“The International truck which is identical to the unit purchased in 2010 and staff is quite pleased with the performance of that unit,” Lynch concluded.

Council approved the truck purchase.
