ERIN – Town officials here have announced they will be closing the municipal office near Hillsburgh on Dec. 20 “until further notice.”
“As COVID-19 infection numbers continue to rise, the safety of our residents and staff continues to be our top priority,” states a Dec. 14 press release from the town.
Officials say the decision to close the municipal office was made with direction from the medical officer of health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, and in line with COVID-19 safety steps taken by the province and neighbouring municipalities.
Centre Wellington announced the same day it is closing its municipal office and Centre Wellington and the County of Wellington announced they will not be ending their state of emergencies as planned on Dec. 31.
Erin town hall will close to public starting Dec. 20 until further notice.
Regular town services will be available online and over the phone (except during the holiday closures).
Reopening of town hall will be dependent on the prevailing situation and as per the guidance of health experts and provincial regulations, the release notes.
“We want everyone to have a safe and healthy holiday season,” Mayor Allan Alls stated in the release.
“This closure is on the advice of our medical officer as the new variant of COVID-19 continues to spread fast. “
Alls added, “It is a challenging time for all of us and I thank you all for your patience and resilience, adhering to all the health and safety requirements.
“Residents can continue to use our online or phone options to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.”
