Town hires new staff, approves winter contracts

Several new faces officially joined the town last week.

At its Nov. 2 meeting Erin council announced two new full-time staff members, as well as the hiring of five seasonal employees. Harold Knox is the town’s new building inspector, while Jonathan French is the new municipal law enforcement officer and property standards officer.

The town also hired four equipment operators, who will conduct regular winter patrol and plow the village of Erin and one rural route, as well as one trackless operator for sidewalk maintenance.

Council unanimously approved all the hirings.

Also last week, Erin council awarded tenders for annual snow removal contracts. Council unanimously approved  the recommendations of Roads Superintendent Larry Van Wyck to award snow removal and salt/sanding contracts to:

– Green Haven, $220 per event for Centre 2000 parking lot;

– Willboi’s, $230 per event for the Hillsburgh and Erin fire halls;

– Cox Excavating, $150 per event for the Glendevon pumphouse and Hillsburgh Heights pumphouse;

– Green Haven, $155 per event for wells 7 and 8;

– Willboi’s, $260 per event for the water tower road and former hydro building in Erin;

– Mr. Markus, $90 per event for the Hillsburgh medical clinic; and

– Snow Brothers, $8,017 per event for the main streets of Erin and Hillsburgh.
