WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Grove Wellington Guelph is currently seeking more youth ambassadors to help engage with youth in the community.
The Grove is a “one-stop-shop” for youth aged 12 to 26 designed to meet a wide range of needs, including mental health, substance use, primary care, education, employment, training, housing and other community and social services.
It continues to make a positive impact in the community by offering youth programs and services specifically designed for them, officials say.
The Grove hires and works with youth ambassadors to help welcome youth, and determine how they can best support youth in the community. They are the warm welcoming face of The Grove Wellington Guelph.
Youth ambassadors oversee the drop-in programs at each of the sites, ensuring there is always a friendly face when youth arrive.
They participate in programming, including workshops and events, engage in peer-to-peer support and provide tours to parents, families and the community.
Most importantly, youth ambassadors contribute to program development at The Grove, providing meaningful services and content which is designed by youth, for youth.
“As a youth ambassador, we have the unique opportunity to offer peers a listening ear and guidance on what supports are available within The Grove Wellington Guelph and our community. We are able to build connections with youth by playing a game of pool or just chatting about our own experiences,” said youth ambassador Valentina Sarmiento.
“Not only are we able to build this trust, we can also draw on their experiences to help create programming that will directly benefit the youth.”
Being a youth ambassador can lead to mentorship experience, leadership opportunities, growth in their interpersonal relationships and other responsibilities.
