Elora Community Theatre’s The Drawer Boy cast and crew earned the award for Best Production of a Canadian Play from adjudicator Sandy MacDonald.
She has adjudicated 25 plays over the last few months for the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) Festival to be held during March break.
Elora Community Theatre’s (ECT) The Drawer Boy was up against 25 other theatre groups in western Ontario including larger cities like London, Windsor, Sarnia and Guelph.
This production of The Drawer Boy, which ran to appreciative audiences (including a special performance for 150 secondary students who study it on their curriculum) at the Fergus Grand Theatre from Feb. 5 to 14, was one of five plays chosen for the March Break Festival in Woodstock.
ECT’s The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey and directed by Julie Wheeler Bryant will be presented on March 16 at the historic Market Centre Theatre in Woodstock.
The Drawer Boy set was dismantled after the run of the production at the Fergus Grand Theatre. It will be put back together again the morning of the 16 after it is transported to Woodstock.
The set, props, costumes are all reassembled for the evening performance. Lighting and sound will then be set up and the actors may get a chance to walk through it before the evening production.
It will be adjudicated by Ron Cameron-Lewis who has taught at Sheridan for over 37 years and acted and directed in many shows.
The awards from that week will be announced at an awards gala on March 16.
The winner from that week will go on to compete at Theatre Ontario festival during the May long weekend.
