Tender for commercial kitchen equipment approved by council

MINTO – Town council has approved a $142,000 contract for supply and installation of equipment for a commercial kitchen at the Palmerston and District Community Centre.

Council awarded the tender to STOP Restaurant Supply at the bid price of $142,348.

The bid from the national distributor was the lowest of three bids for the project. The others were $149,750 and $183,895.

A report from the town’s community services department notes the tender covers most, but not all, of the project.

“Demolition, flooring, ceiling, painting, dishwasher, and point of connection for gas, electrical and plumbing will be completed or supplied by town staff or other contractor,” the report states.

The report also notes staff anticipate the conversion to a commercial kitchen will be completed within the project budget of $175,000.

The renovation of the kitchen at the Palmerston arena is part of the town’s 2022 capital projects list.

The process started with a consultation of existing users and user groups. Drawings were prepared and a tender call was issued in early November.

“It’s taken some time to get to where we are today,” community services director Matthew Lubbers told council.

“This project, the commercial kitchen, was a part of the approved capital ask for 2022 and will be completed in 2023.”
