“Take the Stress out of IBS.” (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is being offered this winter to help adults of all ages decrease symptoms of IBS or a stressed stomach.
Diet and stress are the two greatest triggers of IBS symptoms and altered gastrointestinal function.
This program is provided by Kathy Somers of the Stress Management and High Performance Clinic in conjunction with Lindzie O’Reilly, the dietitian at Student Health Services at the University of Guelph. Topics will include the common food irritants to avoid, tips for symptom relief, mindful eating, stress management strategies, and the most helpful relaxation techniques (and types of biofeedback) to relax the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract. These approaches will be helpful for those with IBS and people with a stressed stomach who would like to better regulate their digestive system.
The four-session program runs on Thursday evenings in March, from 7pm to 8pm, beginning on March 5 in Room 335 University Centre at the University of Guelph. The program fee is $10 for University of Guelph students and $40 for non-students. Register at 519-824-4120, ext. 52662 or e-mail ksomers@uoguelph.ca.
