Local MP John Nater announced on Jan. 8 that employers can now apply for funding under the Canada Summer Jobs 2016 program.
The program is expected to create thousands of job opportunities for students across the country.
“Through Canada Summer Jobs, young Canadians have the opportunity to gain the skills and experience they need to get jobs now and in the future,” stated Nater in a press release.
“I encourage employers to apply for funding to create jobs that will help students, employers and their local economies.”
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities. The program also provides work experiences for students; supports organizations, including those that provide important community services; and recognizes that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely.
Funding will be available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses (under 50 employees) to hire qualified young people aged 15 to 30, who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the fall. Thousands of young Canadians will benefit from summer employment while helping employers address skills shortages, Nater states.
The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2016 will end on Feb. 26. Employers can find further information and submit applications at: www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj.
