Snow Angels recognized by township

The Rockwood “Snow Angels” are gearing up for their second season.

“The … group is made up of dedicated members of our community who provide snow removal assistance to members of our community who cannot shovel the walkway or driveway themselves,” said Guelph-Eramosa Mayor Chris White at the Oct. 3 council meeting.

“The service that volunteer Snow Angels provide contributes a tremendous amount to the overall well being of our community.”

Robbin Wood, of Safe Communities in Guelph-Eramosa Township, said the group saw a need “to help out people who can’t help themselves.

“In Rockwood we started with the Snow Angels last year, we’re hoping to expand it this year and eventually hopefully we can expand into other communities and townships.”

At the Oct. 3 meeting White and council presented the Snow Angels with a plaque for their service, acknowledging how important volunteerism is in rural communities.

White stressed volunteering with the program is the “neighbourly” thing to do and the efforts and kindness of the volunteers doesn’t go unnoticed.

He also encouraged new volunteers to set up and help out this season.

“This would be a great way for families to volunteer together or students to complete their 40-hour community service requirement,” White said.
