Guelph provincial Liberals will meet on Feb. 12 to nominate Sly Castaldi as their candidate in the 2018 general election.
Castaldi, described in a press release as “a passionate community activist who has focused her career on fighting gender violence,” has served as the executive director for Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis for the past 14 years.
Educated and raised in Guelph, Castaldi has made her life and career in the city. She is recognized in community for her dedicated work to serving others. Castaldi has also played an active role in leading local partnerships and developing protocols to respond to domestic violence and sexual assault. She also chairs the board of directors for the Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington County and is a current co-chair of the Premier’s Round-table on Violence Against Women.
Castaldi was named Guelph’s Woman of Distinction in Public Service in 2010 and received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2012.
“I’m honoured to represent the Ontario Liberal Party in the dynamic riding of Guelph,” said Castaldi. “I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for equality and fairness, and Kathleen Wynne’s dedication to the same values inspires me. I’ve spent most of my life here in Guelph, working hard to make our community safer and more inclusive. I’m excited to take that work to the next level.”
“I want to congratulate Sly on her nomination,” said Premier Kathleen Wynne. “If elected, I know Sly’s lived experience as an advocate for women and children will bring a valuable perspective to the Ontario Liberal Caucus.”
