Skate Park update and donation

Council here had a report on the Erin Skateboard Park when Al Alls made a donation of $1,000 for the proposed project.

Alls said on behalf of himself and his partner Liz Crighton at Remax real estate, “We are happy to present this cheque. Hopefully we will see a skateboard park very soon in Erin.”

Mayor Lou Maieron thanked them “on behalf of the skate park, the recreation committee and the kids who are working really hard at it.”

He cited the ongoing fundraising efforts to promote the skate park.

Maieron added that he has put the skate park proponents in touch with businesses about potential donations in-kind.

“It’s coming along,” he said.

On behalf of the skate board park, Ronia Michael thanked them for the donation. She noted the group also planned to sell T-shirts during Erin’s Window Wonderland event on Nov. 18.

To others looking to make a donation, there is more information at the organization website www.erinskatepark.com.

The Erin skate park committee was formed to raise funds to build a skate park and BMX park at Centre 2000 in Erin.

The group committed to making the park a reality. Its goal is to raise $50,000, with matching funds from the town.

Bill Dunwoody said work is progressing and the momentum is catching.

He added proponents are optimistic the shovel will go in the ground this spring and “hopefully have this thing up and running by next fall or late summer.”

He said there is a whole group of parents and kids working on this “so it really is a community effort.”
