Seniors get “˜SMART”™ in Erin, Rockwood

East Wellington Community Services (EWCS)is pleased to announce that the SMART gentle exercise program offered through its 55 Plus Club in Rockwood has been expanded and will be offered in Erin as of Jan. 14, in partnership with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON).

SMART stands for Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together. With so many seniors living in East Wellington, and the area being such a rural area, this program will focus on gentle exercise that will help those participating to maintain and promote independence through sustaining mobility in addition to helping prevent falls.

“The goal of this program is to impact, in a positive way, the wellness, independence and quality of life for senior’s in our area so that they can age in place and still be safe,” said EWCS seniors services manager Sherri Ploude.

She adds the partnership with VON that will strengthen the support of seniors in local communities –  a core objective for both EWCS and the VON.

“We are really excited to have this program available and that it can be offered at no charge for our seniors,” said Ploude.

The program will run as follows through the Erin and Rockwood locations:

– Tuesdays: Rockmosa Community Centre (74 Christie Street, Rockwood) 10:45am to 11:45am or Squires Lodge (160 Guelph Street, Rockwood) 2 to 3pm or Centre 2000 Erin (14 Boland Dr.) 9 to 10am; and
