Second annual fall bazaar benefits Heart and Stroke Foundation

FERGUS – Carrie Kierstead, owner of Hair with Care in Fergus, is hosting the second annual Fall Bazaar for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada with hopes of doubling last year’s fundraising total.

The event will take place on Sept. 18 at Hair with Care, located at 465 St. Patrick Street West in Fergus.

The bazaar, set to run from 12 to 4pm, will feature a variety of vendors from various small businesses selling macramé, personalized mugs and charcuterie boards, among other items.

There will also be a DJ, complimentary coffee from Tim Hortons, and raffles at the event. All proceeds will go towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation, which holds a special place in Kierstead’s heart after her father passed away from a heart attack six years ago.

“A lot of people in the community knew him so it’s really nice that everybody comes together for it,” she said.

Last year’s inaugural event raised roughly $2,500.

“It was such a great turnout,” Kierstead said of the first event. “I want to crush it this year.”

The Hair with Care owner said her goal this year is to raise $5,000, doubling the funds raised from last year’s event.

While the Fergus Fall Fair will be running the same weekend, Kierstead said “social media has been spreading it around and all that so I’m hoping that we still have a great turnout.”

She added there’s been more involvement this year from businesses as well.

“All the restaurants and all the small businesses get involved essentially with prizes and stuff,” she explained.

Leading up to the event, Kierstead said she’s most looking forward to seeing everyone get together again.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everybody get kick started into fall and pre-start a little Christmas shopping and supporting all of the local small businesses and the community,” she explained.

“It’s just really nice that a small town gets together to support all the different charities and events that go on and it just spreads awareness for the Heart Stroke Foundation.”
