Royal City readies for Mikado April 24 – 27

Royal City Musical Productions Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary season with its fifth Gilbert and Sullivan production – Mikado, at the River Run Centre from April 24 through 27.

Students from various schools as well as many community members were hard at work during the March break to rehearse.

Set in Japan, a wandering minstrel falls in love with a village school girl but suffers from the jealousy of a local bureaucrat. The bureaucrat has problems of his own as he has been appointed as the town executioner with the explicit instruction that the first person he executes must be himself.

The town officials who, for efficiency, are all the same person, are much more concerned about following the letter of the Mikado’s laws than the intent. Things come to a head when the Mikado, who is very much in favour of making sure that a punishment should fit the crime, shows up looking for evidence that someone has been executed.

RCMPI is a volunteer organization whose objectives are to provide high calibre entertainment to the citizens of Guelph and area.
