The Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario (SB&H) is very pleased to show its support for the Alexandris family in organizing the 6th Annual “Ride for Jacob” which is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The first “Ride for Jacob” took place in 2010 when Doreen and Tony were looking for an event to honour the memory of their son Jacob Samuel.
Jacob was born in 2008 with a severe case of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. While Jacob shared his life for just a short time before he passed away, he will never be forgotten.
This annual motorcycle ride and barbecue afterwards has grown each year and the first five rides combined have raised a phenomenal amount of over $17,000.
All proceeds are donated to the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario in Jacob’s memory.
The Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario is the only charitable organization in Ontario dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.
Ken Koffman, director of development and promotion said “The commitment and generosity of the Alexandris family ensures that we can continue to provide a comprehensive and essential range of programs, services and direct support. SB&H serves children, youth, adults, parents and families facing extraordinary challenges as a result of these serious, complex disabling neurological conditions.”
Riders to meet at the Alexandris home (5464 Wellington Road 26) on Aug. 22 at 12:30pm.
Riders leave at 1pm to enjoy approximately a 200 km ride through the countryside.
The ride includes two stops for a break and gas etc.
The ride usually lasts about four hours and returns to Alexandris home.
Riders are then welcome to join the family for a free potluck meal including a wonderful pig roast.
Doreen Alexandris said “We only ask for a donation to the SB&H on the day of the event. Everyone is welcome not just riders and for those who do not ride, they are welcome to arrive at our home around 530pm to join us for the dinner and social evening. Many guests bring other friends and family to visit with them while enjoying a great feast.”
Donations are collected on the day in cash or cheque, there is also have a giving page on the SB&H website as the support letter indicates and those wanting to donate electronically can do so from there.
“Our event is our way of giving back and healing our hearts from the tragedy of losing our son who would be turning 7 on the 28th of August this year. My husband, I and our two young sons reflect on our family’s life changing experience and remember Jacob as our little angel who taught us life is very short and precious, we have learned how important family is and to enjoy every moment with each other.”
