Requests for support continue to roll in under FIT program

Guelph-Eramosa council has offered in-principle support for three more solar projects within the township.

At the meeting on Jan. 7 council reiterated its in-principle support for a 100 to 150 kilowatt rooftop project at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, and also provided support for three others:

– a 100kW project at 5382 Township Road 3;

– a 100kW projects at 7540 Wellington Road 51; and

– a 250kW projects at 8572 Highway 7.

Mayor Chris White said companies seek municipal support to receive points under the province’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program.

The mayor said he had no idea how many more individuals and companies will be seeking township support for solar projects.

He did say several councillors have expressed frustration that the government seems to be making it so onerous to obtain a FIT contract that people have given up.

Some have mused that perhaps that was the government’s plan all along.
