On Nov. 6, communities around Canada celebrated Random Act of Kindness Day. In the area the planning was a joint effort between the Centre Wellington Community Foundation and the Guelph Community Foundation.
It was inspiring and heartwarming to watch community members in Fergus, Elora, Salem and Erin embrace kindness and demonstrate it so passionately, foundation officials state.
“Perhaps most touching were the ways kindness played out in schools. Students at Erin and Salem Public Schools held doors open for each other, complimented staff and fellow students, and left kindness notes.”
The Grade 7 and 8 leadership students at Elora Public School wrote and created a music video rap song about kindness, and used it to tell the students about Random Act of Kindness Day.
Students throughout the county shared kindness quotes during morning announcements, some coloured kindness cards for their teachers and principals with a message of thanks inside, others wrote and illustrated stories about “Super Heroes of Kindness”.
The local Elora Brownies participated by sending kindness cards to seniors in the community who may be lonely.
Residents of Elora and Fergus joined in whole-heartedly on Nov. 6 in various ways, including purchasing coffee for the next person in line, offering a smile or bringing muffins in to work to surprise their co-workers.
The purpose of Random Act of Kindness Day is so kindness can be demonstrated on a mass scale and everyone can have the opportunity to practise kindness and integrate it more into their everyday lives.
