Quarry application submitted

Guelph-Eramosa Township has received an application for a 62-acre limestone quarry that would annually produce up to 700,000 tonnes of aggregate.

Planner Mike Davis, of Cuesta Planning Consultants, reviewed the application from James Dick Construction for the township on Dec. 3.

Davis told council the company wants to re-zone the 100-acre lot on the northeast corner of Highway 7 and 6th Line – from agricultural and hazard to extractive industrial – to allow the pit, which will include extraction below the water table.

In his report to council, Davis noted the land is recognized as a “mineral aggregate area” in the county’s official plan, and thus the application would not require an amendment of that plan.

Council unanimously passed a resolution declaring the James Dick application complete and proceeding with public notice of the completion, as well as circulating the application for comment from public agencies, and directing Cuesta Planning Consultants to prepare a preliminary planning report on the application.
