Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services has a new deputy fire chief.
“It’s an exciting night for not only the Township of Puslinch Fire and Rescue Services but the township as well,” Puslinch Fire Chief Steven Goode said on March 16.
“On behalf of the Township of Puslinch, I would like to announce that Luis Gomes has accepted the position of Deputy Fire Chief of Operations.”
Goode explained Gomes, who was to start on March 22, “will be primarily responsible for the leadership and management of the training and suppression division.”
Goode said Gomes will also act as the alternate community Emergency Management Coordinator for the township.
“Deputy Gomes has an impressive post-secondary education, and in addition to that he has tactical and training skills in emergency services,” said Goode.
Gomes has served Puslinch for over six years and currently works as a platoon training officer with the Cambridge Fire Department.
Good said Gomes is a graduate of the Ontario Fire College and has taken several college level leadership and business courses.
“As the new deputy fire chief of operations, Gomes will focus on the township’s continuing efforts to provide the highest level of life safety and property protection to those who live, work and play in our community,” stated Goode
“I am confident that deputy chief Gomes will work hard to ensure fire and rescue services staff have the tools necessary to respond to the local residents safely, effectively and responsibly.
“I look forward to working with Luis as we move the department forward.”
Later that night, Puslinch council passed a bylaw officially appointing Gomes as deputy fire chief.
