Puslinch reNews fire service agreement with Cambridge

Council has authorized a renewal of the existing fire service agreement with Cambridge for the provision of automatic aid within the overall fire agreement with the city.

This allows the township to enter a new agreement with Cambridge for emergency services in specifically designated locations within the Puslinch Lake area as a renewal of its terms in the existing agreement.

The service area previouslywas approved by council resolution for a duration ending Dec. 31, 2015.

Renewing the current agreement provides time for the CAO and fire chief to negotiate a revised agreement, as in accordance with the Master Fire Plan recommendations.

The agreement requires Cambridge to respond to alarms within the area with a maximum of six vehicles and sixteen full-time firefighters responding on the first alarm.

The township is required to relieve the Cambridge Fire Department from the incident as soon as reasonably practical should the estimated duration of the incident exceed one hour.

The levy in 2014 was $108,000 and expected to be $115,100 in 2015. The costs are currently recovered from residents within the contracted service area by the township.
