Puslinch firefighters respond to garage fire

PUSLINCH – A cigarette butt not fully extinguished is believed to have caused a garage fire over the weekend.

Interim Puslinch fire chief Brad Bigrigg said a 911 call was made at about 11am on Oct. 31 about a garage fire at 29 Heritage Lake Drive.

“The bulk of the fire had been extinguished when we arrived on scene,” he said.

Firefighters from Guelph and Guelph/Eramosa also responded but were called off once the fire was contained.

Bigrigg said a cigarette butt was tossed into a green bin in the garage and he believes that’s where the fire originated.

“It was a totally avoidable fire,” he said. “Make sure you put out cigarettes carefully and never toss them in the green or blue bin.”
