Puslinch councillors disappointed with MTO response

Councillors here are feeling a bit left out when it comes to recent correspondence with the Ministry of Transportation.

Recently, councillors received email correspondence from MTO regarding existing speed limits in Morriston.

Councillor Susan Fielding said “This is a little disappointing.”

She also asked that the information be forwarded to the Puslinch Community Oriented Policing Committee which is working to develop a safety zone in that community.

Fielding said “we were led to believe at the stakeholders’ meeting in Morriston, that there would be more of a comprehensive study done.”

“We never really had any results north in the Wellington County part of Highway 6 as to what the safety issues were, or upgrades we had asked for.”

“It is a little disappointing that there is so little information.”

At the time, Fielding remembered an issue with the number of different speed limits within the community.

The only response from the Ministry, Fielding said, “is that various speeds are appropriate. I don’t agree with that, and I don’t know how they came to that conclusion.”

Councillor Wayne Stokley added his agreement.

“I find it difficult with the comments that he made … that there is no formal report to be shared.”

Stokley said it seemed there is information, “but they are not willing to share that information with us.”

It seems they are withholding information, which may not be crucial, but is information we as a township should have to better deal with the scenario which is coming up.”

Mayor Lever agreed that the comment “is not what we would have hoped for.”

“Clearly there is information they have decided not to share with the township – for whatever reason.”
