Public meeting for new Rockwood school on May 13

Guelph-Eramosa Township and the county will hold a joint public meeting on May 13 to consider a proposal for a new public school in Rockwood.

Township planning consultant Lana Phillips, of MHBC Planning, updated council last week on the official plan and zoning bylaw amendments required by the Upper Grand District School Board to build a new school in the south end of the village.

The board announced the new Rockwood public school in January and in February it approved an “estimated cost” of $6,214,000 for the school, which will be located at the end of MacLellan Street, just outside the village’s current urban boundary.

Phillips told council the public meeting for the school application will be on May 13 at 7pm at Rockmosa hall in Rockwood.

Also included on Phillips’ timeline for the application, were the following:

– May 3, the township planning report will be made available to the public;

– May 6, the report will be presented to council;

– June 13, the county’s planning committee will consider the official plan amendment and make a recommendation to county council; and

– June 27, county council will make a decision on the amendment.
