Wayne Stokley says Friends of Mill Creek would like more contact with the local community.
As Puslinch councillors recently looked at proposed meeting dates for the group Stokley said the group is looking at its outreach program.
“They want to engage the community in terms of ‘Meet the Creek’ walks, which I think would be quite interesting,” he said.
Those types of walks may not happen until later this year. The idea was to explore different parts of Mill Creek, starting at the headwaters and moving towards the Grand River.
Stokley noted the creek runs through private property, but certain landowners have come forward as being more than willing to take part in the walks. “It may be a great opportunity for people to see what the Mill Creek Rangers have done and also see parts of Mill Creek which have not been open before because they are on private property.”
Stokley said he supported the initiative and anticipated council would do so as well.
Mayor Dennis Lever said the walks seemed like an excellent idea. Lever said about three years ago he was at Shade’s Mill which provides the public the opportunity to see Mill Creek just before it enters the Shade’s Mill conservation area.
