Police urge public not to spread rumours about teen's death
'Avoid speculation and rely on information released through official channels': OPP
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Police are asking member of the public not to share "unverified information" about a tragic incident last week that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old Puslinch boy.
The teen was struck by a minivan on Wellington Road 29, southeast of Fergus and south of Eramosa-Garafraxa Townline, shortly after midnight on Sept. 19.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The minivan driver stopped at the scene and was not hurt.
"Wellington County OPP recognizes that this incident has deeply affected the community," police stated in a Sept. 24 press release.
"Members of the public are urged to be cautious when sharing or posting unverified information, photos or videos related to this incident as it can contribute to misinformation, unnecessary concern within the community and potentially affect the ongoing investigation."
The public should "avoid speculation and rely on information released through official channels," police added.
