Police Beat: Motorcycle driver dead after collision

WELLINGTON NORTH – An Arthur man is dead following a serious collision here last week.

On June 6 at about 2:30pm emergency crews  responded to the crash on Wellington Road 14, north of Arthur.

Police say a motorcycle and sedan had collided and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Dead is Joey D. Catteau, 51, of Arthur.

Driver airlifted

GUELPH-ERAMOSA- On May 31 at about 8am emergency crews responded to a serious collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Wellington Road 32 and Wellington Road 31, west of Guelph.

Wellington County OPP  officials say a motorcycle and sedan “T-boned” at the intersection and the driver of the motorcycle, a 66-year-old Guelph man, sustained serious injuries.

He was to be airlifted to a trauma centre with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan was uninjured.

The Wellington County OPP is asking anyone that may have witnessed this collision to call 1-888-310-1122.

Impaired on moped, driver is charged

On June 6, 2019, at approximately 4:15pm, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Wellington Road 38 near the City of Guelph. Initial reports indicated that an operator of a moped had lost control, entered the ditch and suffered minor injuries.

OPP responded and while speaking with the driver formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to a local hospital where he underwent further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Mark Kenneth Leavoy, 63, of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation – 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood). A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 9.

Anyone who suspects  someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired by drugs or alcohol, is urged call 911 immediately.
