Police beat: Careless driving
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Cambridge resident has been charged with careless driving and driving without a licence following a crash here last week.
Emergency crews responded to the collision, between an SUV and tractor trailer at the intersection of Wellington Roads 124 and 32 in Guelph/Eramosa, on March 31 at about 3:30pm.
“No injuries were reported,” stated a release from the Wellington County OPP.
A 30-year-old from Cambridge was charged with careless driving, failing to properly wear a seatbelt, driving without a licence and two counts of driving while suspended.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Stolen truck, plates
FERGUS – Police are asking for help to identify two suspects in a recent vehicle theft.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called about a pickup truck being stolen from a business on Blair Street in Fergus on March 26 at about 9:30pm.
Police say the suspect(s), was also believed to be operating an early 2000s Honda CRV.
“On March 29 ... police located the stolen pickup truck on Woodlawn Road East within the City of Guelph and discovered that the original licence plates belonging to the pick-up truck were missing and believed to be stolen,” police stated.
Farm stand thefts
PUSLINCH – Two people have been charged in connection with farm stand thefts here earlier this year.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called about recurring thefts from a farm stand on Sideroad 10 in Puslinch Township on Feb. 15.
Five weeks later, on March 22, police identified two suspects.
A 52-year-old Cambridge woman was charged with two counts of theft (under $5,000). She is to appear in Guelph court on June 19.
Another 52-year-old from Cambridge, was charged with driving while suspended (for unpaid fines).
Both are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Stolen food
FERGUS – Police are asking for help to identify three suspects involved in a recent vehicle theft.
Wellington County OPP officials say that at around 3:20pm on March 24, three suspects entered a business on Tower Street South in Fergus and stole “numerous food items before fleeing from the store northbound in a suspect vehicle.”
The vehicle is described as a grey 2019 Toyota Corolla with Ontario licence plate CCVB536.
Prohibited driver
GUELPH – An Erin man who is prohibited from driving was arrested last week and had his boss’ vehicle impounded.
Guelph Police officials say that just after 11am on March 31, “an officer was patrolling downtown when her cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted to a vehicle without a current permit.
“The vehicle was pulled over and through investigation it was determined the driver is prohibited from driving following a hit-and-run conviction.”
A 29-year-old Erin man was charged with driving while prohibited, driving while suspended, breaching a probation order and driving without a valid permit.
He is to appear in Guelph court on June 23. His boss’ car was impounded for 45 days.
Driving charges
PUSLINCH – A Guelph driver is facing several charges following a traffic stop last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say an officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 35 in Puslinch Township on March 25 at about 4:45pm when the cruiser’s automatic license plate recognition system “notified the officer of a vehicle travelling with an expired permit.”
“A traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle was observed to be in an unsafe condition.”
A 55-year-old from Guelph was charged with driving an unsafe vehicle, driving without a muffler, driving with a defective braking system, driving without insurance and driving without a valid permit.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court on July 15.
