Pedal for Portage raises over $57,000

ELORA – More than 130 enthusiastic riders came together on Sept. 23 to participate in the 6th annual Pedal for Portage event, raising $57,000 in support of Portage and the youth it serves.

The event took place at the Grand River Agricultural Society, bringing together riders of all levels on four routes, ranging from 20 to 100km.

“We are overwhelmed by the incredible support we received from our community of riders and supporters,” said Ashley-Ann Maginnis, associate director, development of Portage Ontario.

“Their dedication to our cause and their tireless efforts to raise funds for Portage’s youth have truly made a difference. This year’s event was a testament to the power of collective action.”

This year, Pedal for Portage acknowledged top fundraisers with prizes to recognize their commitment to the cause. Among those winners were top fundraisers Henk Schuumans, Spencer Sgro and Sara Erskine; and top youth fundraisers Lilianna McDonald (who won a new bike by raising $1,069), Jonathan Maginnis, and Brayden LeBel.

Funds raised during the event will go directly to supporting Portage programs aimed at helping youth overcome mental health challenges and substance use disorders.

The Pedal for Portage Planning Committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers who made this year’s event a success.

“Their commitment to the cause and unwavering support demonstrates the remarkable impact that a community can achieve when they come together for a common goal,” officials stated.
