Partnership announced between UGDSB and l”™Academie Clermont-Ferrand

A partnership project has been initiated between the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and the Académie Clermont-Ferrand, a school board district in the region of Auvergne in France.

The aim is to connect one learning environment with another learning environment both virtually and through student exchanges.

Last week, UGDSB hosted representatives from the Académie Clermont-Ferrand.

Dominique Suquet, head of European and international relations and Henri Duran, inspector of English language teachers, visited with board personnel, teachers and students.

Curriculum leader/teacher, Christina Schilling organized a roster of events, which included visits to John McCrae Public School, Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, Laurelwoods Public School, Erin District High School and Erin Public School.

The partnership will offer many exciting opportunities for educators and students to develop global citizenship through a variety of multidisciplinary co-operative projects. In the words of Duran, “The sky is the limit.”

This partnership comes as a result of an agreement signed in November 2014 between the ministry of education for Ontario and the minister of national education, higher education and research of France.

The aim of the agreement is to “support and encourage co-operation in education by recognizing the importance of global education and international interactions for teachers, administrators and students, as a means of enhancing the quality of education provided by their school systems. and as a means of developing ethical and engaged citizens.”

The agreement between UGDSB and the Académie Clermont-Ferrand was signed in December 2015 by their respective directors, Martha Rogers and Marie-Davide Campion.
