Seventeen paramedics from Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medial Services were recognized for their years of service at the second annual awards night at the Marden Community Centre on May 29.

Also recognized were Daniel Tiller, who was named  Volunteer of the Year, and Derek Bridgewater, who received an Exemplary Service Medal nomination.

Guelph-Wellington EMS Chief Stephen Dewar said he was very proud of his team.

“This event demonstrates the professionalism, the caring, and the compassion all brought together,” Dewar said.

Madelyn Richardson, a Grade 6 student from Salem Public School, said, “Paramedics and EMS in general are like the cartoon superheroes of our reality.”

Richardson wrote an essay on paramedics’ expanding care and was chosen to speak at the awards night.
