ABERFOYLE - From breakfast to fireworks,  the Puslinch Optimist Club has Canada Day covered with family-friendly, free activities.

Start July 1 with a free community breakfast at the Puslinch Community Centre, where Puslinch Optimist Club volunteers will prepare and serve pancakes, eggs, bacon, breakfast beverages and cake. Children can also get face paintings.

A bike rodeo, focusing on safety for children, runs from 12:30 to 2pm in the community centre parking lot.

In the evening, bring a lawn chair and a blanket and find a spot for a free, 30-minute show to close out the day, including the singing of O Canada and a fireworks display at dusk.

“It’s a pretty lengthy show ... we really get the community involved,” said Optimist Club Canada Day celebration chair Andrea Miljkovic.

Puslinch’s fire department will have trucks on site, and a food truck will offer ice cream, snacks and drinks for purchase.

Attendees can park in the front or back parking lots of the community centre, and find their way onto the soccer fields, baseball diamond, and near the horse paddocks where the fireworks will be set off by Optimist Club members.

“We do this every Canada Day,” Miljkovic said.

“The whole day is for the community, anyone who wants to come out and celebrate this country we live in, to celebrate community, to bring community together.”
