OPP conducting traffic safety blitz in Rockwood

ROCKWOOD – Local police will be conducting a traffic safety blitz here on March 10 in response to “recent community concerns regarding unsafe driving practices.”

The “traffic safety enforcement initiative,” to be conducted by Wellington County OPP’s Traffic Management Unit, will focus on the OPP’s “big four” offences:

  • speeding/aggressive driving;
  • distracted driving;
  • seatbelt usage; and
  • impaired driving.

“Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit members will be conducting strict high-visibility targeted enforcement utilizing both marked and unmarked police vehicles that are equipped with a number of mobile and stationary enforcement devices,” states a March 8 press release from the OPP.

“This Traffic Safety Initiative is a direct result of recent community concerns regarding unsafe driving practices in the area.”

OPP officials say local police have also conducted several speed studies recently within the community with “Black Cat speed detection devices.”

The devices “inconspicuously measure the speed of traffic through a given area over the course of several days or weeks,” police say.
