Ontario is giving Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington up to $150,000 for its Immigrant Entrepreneur Program.
The project will be jointly delivered by Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington and the Business Centre Guelph.
The objective of the project is to assist refugees and vulnerable newcomers with becoming self employed.
A total of 95 projects in Ontario will receive funding for services to help improve social and economic outcomes for refugees and other vulnerable newcomers, including immediate settlement and long-term integration support.
Ontario is also funding Immigrant Services Guelph-Wellington with a $7,600 grant for their Bridging the Gap program under the Multicultural Community Capacity Grant program.
The Multicultural Community Capacity Grant program provides opportunities for newcomers and ethno-cultural communities to participate fully in the civic, cultural, social and economic life of Ontario.
“Welcoming refugees and vulnerable newcomers is important, but it’s not enough,” said Guelph MPP Liz Sandals.
“That’s why the province of Ontario has pledged to continue addressing the challenges of higher than anticipated numbers by expanding targeted services in communities like Guelph.
“The greater the supports, the greater the chances of refugees and vulnerable newcomers’ successful social and economic integration, which benefits us all.”
