SOWDON, Ross

April 19, 1936 - January 19, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Ross Boyd Sowdon, who left this world on Friday, January 19, 2024. A fiercely independent soul, he lived a life rich with creativity, love, and a profound appreciation for the wonders of the world. Dad was born on April 19, 1936 in Toronto. Throughout his 87 years, he passionately pursued the arts, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful creations that reflect his unique vision and spirit. A lover of nature, Dad found solace and inspiration outdoors. Whether he was exploring the wilderness, tending to his garden, enjoying the serene landscapes through cross country skiing and snowshoeing, or capturing the beauty of nature through his art, his connections to the natural world was a source of joy and tranquility. His adventurous spirit led him to travel near and far, where he embraced the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds. Dad cherished the connections he made during his journeys, leaving a mark on the hearts of those fortunate to cross his path. With a keen sense of humour, Dad brought laughter and joy to those around him. He enjoyed writing poetry, weaving words into verses that reflected the depth of his soul and the beauty he saw in the world. Dad experienced life in both large and small cities, adapting seamlessly to the diverse environments that shaped his journey. He held very strong spiritual connections and faith that guided his journey in his later years. This profound spiritual commitment enriched his life, provided comfort and shaped the compassionate way he interacted with others. Dad is survived by his loving daughters, Shelly Porteous and Heidi Brown (Doug Brown). He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jane Porteous, Cameron Porteous, Nicholas Brown and Holly Brown, and his many nieces and nephews. We remember Dad for the creative and independent spirit that defined his remarkable life. We will miss you, Dad. Private cremation has taken place.
