SCHIECK, Edith

Edith was born and raised near Ayr. She spent her summers with her grandmother at Crieff. She met Grant and they married in 1958 – a marriage lasting 62 years.  They settled on a farm just outside Moorefield. Eventually moving to Drayton and then Palmerston. Edith and Grant were blessed with 4 sons: Brad & Dianne of Arthur, Mark & Karen of Elmira, Dale & Lorie of St. Jacobs, Dene & Denise of Drayton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She had many roles during her life. In her younger years, she was known for her talent playing the accordion and piano. For her family, she was a wife and a mother who doubled as a mediator and nurse!  Her cooking and baking were a full-time job in itself – oh those butter tarts and strawberry cheesecake. She was a devoted grandmother, providing childcare and yummy treats. Edith was also a good friend, community volunteer, including 60 years with the Mapleton Agricultural Society, church attendee, health care provider at Chateau Gardens, head cook at Norwell high school and Geri Care Nursing Home, ceramics store owner, and caterer to the community. Edith was with us for 84 years from 1936 to 2021. It is not the number of years between those two numbers that matter, it is how you spend those years that matter. And Edith put a lot into every one of those years. You’re at peace now.
