Of Arthur ON passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus ON surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Gloria Pereira for 65 years. Dear father of Laura and Alberto Da Silva, Joseph and Cidalia Pereira, John and Tazim Pereira, Anna Pereira, Lucy and Albertino (Roberto) Argiro, Dian and Steven Bartolomeo. Loving grandfather to Jeff and Amy Conde, the late Gloria Conde, Melissa Conde and Amanda Conde; Jason and Jeanette Pereira, Philip and Gabriella Pereira; Daniel Pereira and Kayla Pereira; Miriah Argiro (Kevin) and Britney Argiro; Ava Bartolomeo and Olivia Bartolomeo. Cherished great grandfather of Levi Pereira. Fondly remembered by his brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents Manuel and Mary Jo Pereira. José immigrated to Canada on April 21, 1956 from the Azores, Portugal. He started his work journey in the tobacco farm industry in Norwich, ON for a couple of years. Shortly after José married the love of his life, Gloria (Benevides) on February 8, 1959 and started their life together in Oakville ON. While in Oakville José welcomed their first daughter and two sons while working at the Ford Motor company. José found his true passion in farming and in 1967 he purchased his dream farm in Arthur ON and became a successful dairy farmer. He later welcomed 3 girls to his family. José was a hardworking man and took pride in his children, daughter-in-laws and son-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. José was a dedicated member within the Portuguese community as well as a faithful member of his local parish. He loved watching wrestling, working in the fields on his machinery, playing cards with family members and enjoyed quality time with his family in his later years. Family and friends will be received at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, 243 George Street, Arthur ON Sunday April 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm and Monday April 22, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. John Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 150 Georgina Street, Arthur ON on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11:00am. A reception will follow at the St. John Parish Centre, 130 Georgina Street, Arthur ON. Parish Prayers will be recited in the funeral home by Fr. Stephen on Monday April 22, 2024 at 7:00pm followed by the Rosary. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Groves Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of José. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
