Pattenden, Emily (Nee: Jones)

Pattenden, Emily (Nee: Jones); It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emily  Pattenden (nee Jones) on December 17th. Emily was the beloved wife of Eric Pattenden for 60 years, cherished mother of Lori Hintermeister (Mike) and Heidi Pattenden and devoted grandmother of Tom and Rudi Hintermeister. Emily was born in Toronto in 1934 and grew up in the Beach, living on Queen Street with her father Tom, mother Lilian, her wonderful sister Eileen and often extended family members. She loved going to the movies at the Fox Theatre, frequenting the Goof, traveling on the Queen Streetcar and dancing at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. Emily attended Shaw Business College. At a young age she joined the Royal Bank, working her entire career at head office where she retired from the position of Executive Assistant to the Vice President. She and Eric lived for 56 years in a bungalow on Ellington drive in Scarborough where they brought up their daughters in kinder, gentler times. Emily was absolutely beautiful in all possible ways. She was humble, shy and modest. Emily never had a bad word to say about a soul, was always the first to open her wallet and could always laugh at herself. She was sweet, goofy, loyal, brave and a true gentle soul. She was so pretty and didn’t even realize it.  Emily was the best mother we could have ever hoped for, always showering us with unconditional love. She always had our backs even when we were wrong, just because we were hers. She had her faults, we just don’t know what they were. Emily took adversity in her stride, comforting her loved ones as she battled Alzheimer’s. Emily ended her days at the Wellington Terrace where she was the grateful recipient of the tender care of the Staff on Maple Ridge Neighbourhood; a place where her entire family felt at home. Right now she is in her own version of heaven, walking hand in hand with her dad along the boardwalk. They are clicking their heels high in the air, as in days gone by. If you are so inclined, donations in Emily’s memory to the Wellington Terrace or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be gratefully received. A memorial get together of friends and family will take place on February 3rd at 2:00pm in the Keating Lounge at 20 Station Square in Elora.   (519) 846-5352  www.grahamgiddyfh.com
