Mathies, Lilian (Commons-Harman)

Mathies, Lilian (Commons-Harman); Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph, on Saturday, June 26, 2010 in her 84th year.  Lilian was born in Surrey, England on August 23, 1926. Loving sister of Violet (Ron Liddiard), George (deceased) and Tony Harman (Iris).  She came to Canada as the war bride of Russell Commons in 1946.  Together they had five children, Dianne (Dwight Schurr), Susan (deceased) (Bert Kendall), Paul (Pamela), Penny (Myron Biehn) and Russell (Connie Parkinson).  Lilian’s husband Russell passed away in 1954. In 1967 she married Amos Mathies of Campbellville and together they had a daughter, Tracey (Steve Bruton).  She became step-mother to Amos’ five children Paul (Sandra), Clare (deceased) (Kay), Pauline (Jim Anderson), Don (Dianne) and Janice (David McAvoy). Lilian had a strong faith in God and attended St. George’s Anglican Church in Lowville and was an active member of the ACW. Her family has many fond memories of family gatherings, home cooked meals, and many conversations over cups of tea. She will also be greatly missed by all her grandchildren and great grandchildren who all held their own special place in her heart. The family received visitors at the J. SCOTT EARLY FUNERAL HOME, 21 James St., Milton 905-878-2669 on Wednesday, June 30 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service took place on Thursday, July 1, at 11am from St. George’s Anglican Church on Guelph Line. Reception followed in the church hall.
