MACKIE, Charlotte Verona (nee Angst)

Passed away at Guelph General Hospital on Monday, March 18, 2024, in her 90th year. Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” Mackie (2009), for 55 years, and dear mother of Raymond of Echo Bay and Donald of Guelph. Loving grandmother of Matthew, Katrina and Kassandra and great grandmother of Raelynn. She is survived by her sister Marion Campbell (Malcolm 2010), brother George Angst (Ann 2024) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Reginald Angst (1975) and Eva (Thurtell) (1983). Charlotte a family historian, genealogist, and Archivist for over 50 years was an 8 ½ year employee of the Soldier Settlement and Veterans’ Land Act, Guelph, and was connected with Woodlawn Cemetery for nearly 40 years, researching her family trees, working in the office as Secretary for Paul Taylor, General Manager, and later working as Volunteer Cemetery Historian, along with Judy Steele. Charlotte researched and wrote the Biographies for the brochures for those interred at Woodlawn Cemetery from 1854 for all the Annual Walking and Spirit Walk Tours including the pioneers from 1827 that were originally buried in downtown Guelph and later removed to Woodlawn Cemetery. Charlotte was a descendant of the Watson, Harland (2), Neeve, Davis, Thurtell, and Davie families who settles in Guelph Township from 1831 to 1835, and the Angst (Switzerland) and Bradwell (England) families who settled in Howick Township, Huron County in 1855 and the Ross family (Ireland) in Markham Township, York County. She researched and volunteered also at the Wellington County Museum and Archives, Fergus in the 1980’s. At Charlotte’s request, cremation has taken place. You are invited to attend the graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Guelph, date and time to be announced. Arrangements entrusted to Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com). The family is grateful for all the support received from Dr. Thompson, staff of ParaMed, Bayshore, Guelph General Hospital Emergency and Step Down departments, St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener, Paramedics of Wellington County, Staff of Shopper’s Drug Mart, Willow West and Nancy Radcliffe. A tree will be planted in memory of Charlotte V. Mackie in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
