Green, Harold James

Green, Harold James; passed away peacefully on October 1, 2012. Married to Jean (Buchan) for 67 years to the day! (October 1st 1945). Predeceased by three sisters Jean Stuart, Isobel Perry and Eleanor Green. Harold will be sadly missed by his two sons William James Green and Lynn (Robinson) of Guelph and Brian Harold Green and Marg (Thoume) of Elora. Also mourning their loss are his five grandchildren Shelley Green and fiancé Mike Mansfield of Guelph, David Green of Kitchener, Kari Green (predeceased), Andrea Purych (Green) and Tim of Blind River, Ontario and Rob Green and Heidi of Guelph as well as one great grandchild Joshua Purych. Harold was raised in Fergus and attended the Fergus High School in the 1930’s, joined the R.C.A.F. in 1941 and graduated as a pilot in Ottawa in 1943. He served overseas from 1943-1945 and when returning home he purchased a farm on the first line of Nichol Township and rented his father’s farm on the second line. October 1st, 1945 he married Jean Buchan in Sudbury whom also was an air force member of the women’s division. Together they cared for their large beef feedlot and grain farm for the next 50 years. Harold served on many boards and service clubs including the Fergus Fair Board, Township Counselor, Guelph Wellington Men’s Club and was a lifetime member of the Fergus Legion Branch 275. He enjoyed many summers at their cottage in Sauble Beach and winters spent traveling the world. There will be a Legion Service held for Harold at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Thursday, October 4th at 12:00 noon followed by visitation that will be held until the time of service in the funeral home chapel at 2pm that same day.
