It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bessie Marie Carpenter (Thomas) on Sunday May 14th, 2023. Bessie was born on July 11th, 1940 in Digby, Nova Scotia, to the late Harold and Anne (Dennison) Thomas, and was married to the late Jim Carpenter for 63 wonderful years. Bessie is survived by her children Heather (Paul) Sweet, Jim (Denise) Carpenter, Robert (Bonnie) Carpenter, and Kathy Carpenter (partner Dwayne Mullett). Grandchildren Karenda, Karley, Daryl, Kate, Hayley, Adam, Daniel, Kathaleen and Evan. Great grandmother to Tamaya, Owen and Liam, brother George (Betty) Thomas, and sister-in-law Joan Marinier. Also predeceased by brothers Arthur, Roy, Richard, Archie, sisters Alice, Mildred, Pearl, Helen, Elizabeth, Gloria and brother-in-law Bill Marinier. Bessie will also be missed by many nieces and nephews far and wide. Bessie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who had a great passion for gardening, a love of watching and caring for birds and enjoyed playing euchre with friends and family. She grew up in Digby, Nova Scotia where she met her one true love, Jim, who was stationed there with the Royal Canadian Navy. They spent several years in Nova Scotia before moving their family to Jim’s hometown of Fergus, Ontario. Bessie was loved by all who knew her with her infectious smile and kind, compassionate heart. She will truly be missed by all who knew her and is forever in the hearts of her loved ones. As per Bessie’s wishes there will be no service. A small gathering of family and friends will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bessie’s memory to Meals on Wheels or Fergus Horticultural Society. The Family would like to thank Heritage House in St. Jacobs for taking wonderful care of Bessie in her last few years.
