BRIDGE, Douglas

Of Moorefield and formerly of Drayton passed away at the Guelph General Hospital on Monday January 22, 2024 in his 66th year. Dear sweet husband of Marilyn (Kleinveld) for 42 years. Very proud Dad of Chasen and Amanda Bridge, Chadroy and Nicole Bridge, Elizabeth and Gerard Laros and Janette Bridge. Delighted Papa of Kaitlyn, Connor, LillyAnn, Roselin, Daniel, Kayde and Ivy. Cherished brother of Wayne (Marilyn), Kenneth (A. Carriere) and Steve (Laurie). Brother-in-law of Glenda (Lawrence), Marg (Steve), Janice (Albert), Ron (Chris), Rob, Mary (Ron) and Julie. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and past co-workers. Predeceased by his parents Eldon and Bernice Bridge and brother-in-law Peter. Doug was a lifelong baseball enthusiast, who spent many years coaching, playing and umpiring in many different leagues. He took umpiring very seriously and loved a good game. He was a friend to many and always found someone to talk to along his way. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and always, without a doubt, would have to tell us all about his perfect hand or the best game. He started his career at Rothsay Recycles (now Darling International) as a truck driver and left 37 years later as a Fleet Supervisor. He made so many friends there, many of whom he still talked to. Doug was a boy Scout leader and a member of the Kinsmen club of Drayton for many enjoyable years. Dad was a man of his word, he was highly respected, loyal and had true pride in his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. He will be missed by many but will live on in the stories we share and the memories we hold. To honour Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Drayton Christian Reformed Church at 88 Main St East on Friday January 26, 2024 from 1:00-4:00pm. As expressions of sympathy and appreciated by the family, donations can be made to the Hope House in Guelph. Arrangements entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton.
