Northern Lights, Credit Union among Top 50 employers

Northern Lights Canada and Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU) have been named among the list of the best 50 small and medium sized employers in Canada.

Northern Lights ranked 14th and MSCU ranked 32nd on the list, published annually for the last seven years by Profit Magazine.

“The best employer award provides Northern Lights Canada customers with concrete evidence that we care about people,” said Wendy Legere, the chief executive officer of the Fergus and Mount Forest branches of the company.

“As a human services company, we believe that trust is the foundation for effective service relationships. The knowledge that we care helps clients move towards a trust relationship quickly, and accelerates our collaborative pursuit of successful outcomes.”

MSCU chief executive officer Brent Zorgdrager was also pleased with the announcement.

“This survey reflects the collective voice of our staff,” said Zorgdrager.

“And we’re so pleased to hear them say that they are highly engaged with our mission to make a difference in people’s lives through exemplary service that reflects the voice of the member and the values of our faith community. We’re honoured that our staff have put us on this esteemed list for three years in a row.”

Being named to the list is a detailed and competitive process. The national awards program recognizes top employers with between 50 and 399 employees.

The program mirrors the renowned Best Employer in Canada list published in Maclean’s Magazine; however, it caters to smaller businesses.

The rankings are primarily determined by using the results from employee opinion surveys. The evaluation process also includes the assessment of organizational practices and perspectives from the leadership team.

This year, more than 250 organizations across Canada participated in the study with  partners that included the Queen’s School of Business, Queen’s Centre for Business Venturing and AON Hewitt.
