Nomination call for young farmers

Nominations are open for the 2010 Ontario’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ program. Nominees may be individuals or couples who de­rive a minimum of two-thirds of gross revenue from farming and are under 40 as of Jan. 1.

Nominations can be down­loaded at www.oyfonta­rio.ca and the deadline is Dec. 15.

Celebrating its 30th year, the national program is an an­nual competition to recog­nize young farmers who ex­emplify excellence in their pro­fession. Dem­onstrating leadership in the agricultural industry, nomi­nees are judged according to the following criteria:

– progress made in their agriculture career;

-environmental and safety practices;

– crop and livestock pro­duction history;

– financial and management practices; and

– contributions to the well-being of their community, pro­vince, nation.

The winner is selected at the Ontario event in Belleville April 2 to 4 and represents Ontario at the national awards in Victoria in Decem­ber.
