No decision on parking fees at new Groves Hospital

The Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) board recently received a letter and signed petition opposing paid parking at the new hospital.

“It is unfortunate to receive this petition especially when the board has not made any decision about paid parking,” explains Gord Feniak, chair of the new Groves hospital building committee.

Centre Wellington resident, Matt Graham, organized a petition to prevent paid parking at the new hospital and 821 people signed on. Graham delivered the petition to the hospital in April and has since met with Jerome Quenneville, GMCH president and CEO, and Howard Dobson, GMCH board chair, to discuss the concern.

“Mr. Graham was assured by Mr. Quenneville and Mr. Dobson that community consultation sessions will take place before any decision is made about the potential for paid parking at the new Groves Hospital site,” states Feniak.

“There are many factors that need to be taken into consideration when making this decision. Community members may not realize that the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care does not fund hospital aspects of parking construction and operating costs. The new Groves hospital building committee values the importance of the community’s input in helping to guide the decisions about the new hospital.”

The new Groves hospital is expected to open in 2019 and will be located in Aboyne (between Elora and Fergus).
