OTTAWA – Perth-Wellington MP John Nater and Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong are filling new roles in the 43rd Parliament of Canada.
Nater will serve as the Official Opposition’s deputy house leader, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer announced Nov. 28.

Chong was named shadow cabinet minister for Democratic Institutions.
Parliament was to convene on Dec. 5 to elect the Speaker of the House of Commons and hear the government’s Speech from the Throne.
At that time Nater was to assume his new role as part of the Official Opposition Leadership Team.
He thanked Andrew Scheer for his support in a recent press release.
“I am honoured to have been chosen to serve in this role as our caucus continues the work of holding this minority Liberal government to account,” said Nater.
“My colleagues and I are eager to return to the House of Commons. There are many issues on the minds of Canadians, and I will continue to advocate on behalf of our communities.
“Despite this new role and responsibility, my first priority will always be the people of Perth Wellington,” Nater said.
