Mount Forest Horticultural Society has some plans up its sleeve

Guest speakers, plant sale and garden tours are coming

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Horticultural Society has a number of events planned this spring including the beloved plant sale, where bargains and unique plants can be found.

The sale runs May 25 from 9am to 2pm in the parking lot of Mount Forest Greenhouses, at 460 Durham St. E.

Their annual garden tour is slated for July 20 from 10am to 4pm. Details of that will be posted on the club’s Facebook page closer to the event.

The club meets on the second Thursday of every month. In addition to a potluck dinner and business meeting, guest speakers are often invited.

On June 13, guest speakers from the Grey Bruce Master Gardeners will speak about companion planting.

On Aug. 8, Kim Delaney of Hawthorn Farm Organic Seeds will talk about saving seeds for replanting.

On Sept. 12, Grey Bruce Master Gardeners will be back to talk about how to move a mature garden.

And on Oct. 10 the guest speaker will be Erin Bouthro, a watershed ecologist with the Maitland Conservation Authority, who will speak about gardening for birds, bees, and other critters.

Membership to the horticultural society costs $10 for adults, $7 for students and $15 for a family. Some local nurseries offer a discount to society members.

Meetings are held at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex. The potluck dinner begins at 6:15pm and the regular meeting at 7pm.

Memberships are sold at the meetings and at the M&M Food Market.
