Miracle on the Grand for Groves Foundation generates $4,000 donation

The play may have been Miracle on 34th Street, but for Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation director Lee Bonnell, it was more a “Miracle on the Grand,” as Vision Theatre presented his organization with a $4,000 cheque.

On Dec. 14 Vision Theatre’s executive producer Fred Morris noted that evening’s production marked the second year Vision Theatre has presented Christmas shows.

“The shows are in support of Groves Memorial Community Hospital Foundation,” Morris said.

He added this year’s approach was a bit different by splitting the donation in two parts. The donation that evening was connected directly with the show itself and the second part, to be presented later, is connected with the Fergus BIA and the downtown merchants association’s I Believe in Santa campaign.

Morris added that campaign has taken off in unexpected ways. “We all know we are working as a community for a new hospital in a few years. We want to make that a reality and the community has been giving generously over the years.”

Morris anticipated even more generosity will be needed as the hospital comes with significant costs.

“It is a valuable asset and a much-needed facility in the community. We are all looking forward to the day it can become a reality.”

Bonnell added that while the government will fund the building, it does not fund the equipment within it.

“Our goal for equipment is $572,000,” Bonnell said.

He added the $4,000 donation will significantly help in reaching that goal.

Commenting on the downtown campaign, Bonnell said it has become clear that “Santa Belives in Groves” and that this night was a local miracle in the community supporting the hospital.
