Minto council awards contract for janitorial services

MINTO – Town council here has hired a cleaner for four locations within the municipality.

Following the recent decision of a cleaner to stop providing service to the Harriston Town Hall Theatre, town staff assembled a tender for cleaning services at the theatre, municipal and public works offices, and The Grove Youth Hub in Palmerston.

At the high-traffic youth hub, staff are presently doing the cleaning, but the location demands a higher level of sanitation, town treasurer Gordon Duff noted in a Sept. 6 report to council.

With the absence of a cleaner at the theatre and demand at the Grove, staff bundled the four locations into a single tender for services that closed on Aug. 5 with four bids received.

“The amount spent on cleaning services will be higher as costs have increased for facilities which are now covered by other contracts and additional locations are now included in these service areas,” Duff stated in his report, adding costs would be included in facilities’ annual operating budgets.

At the high end, Omega Safety Services submitted a bid of $225,600 for a three-year term, and at the low end was Green Maples Environmental with a bid of $68,400.

The other two bids, from ANK Maintenance Services and Sierra Alpha Facility Services, were priced at $74,822 and $75,512, respectively.

Mississauga-based Green Maples provided a high-quality submission and had good references, Duff told councillors.

Staff recommended the company be awarded the contract for weekly cleaning with an option to extend if the town is satisfied with the service provided.

Council approved the recommendation with the contract awarded to Green Maples.
